Honor Flight

Honor Flight Program. Contact person: Herb Tuttle: Tel: 703-743-5345 Email: hmtuttle@comcast.net

Normally Honor Flights are scheduled from spring through Fall of each year. Generally the Honor Flights begin in mid April; however, this year the DC Government has declared the entire month of April "Cherry Blossom Month" instead of the usual week of peak cherry blossoms. Because of this it is likely that the Honor Flight Program will not begin flights until late April or May. In any case, there are two general ways that HH MOAA Chapter members can volunteer to participate. First, members can simply meet the flights and welcome the Veterans at Dulles Airport. Volunteers can also meet the flights at send off in the evening and give the Veterans a hearty farewell! This can be done as individuals or as small groups of people who might choose to carpool to the airport. In either case, Herb Tuttle has information on the process for meeting and greeting the Veterans. The second way to volunteer is to serve as a Guardian for the Honor Flights. Guardians meet the flights and then stay with the Veterans as escorts throughout the day. Again, Herb Tuttle has information about the Guardian’s training and role. Herb Tuttle will provide information on flight dates and schedules when such becomes available later in the Spring.
